Mark Feltner To Kill a Mockingbird By: Harper Lee Essay By: Mark Feltner In the sleepy town of Maycomb it seems that most people do not have the courage or the integrity to do what is right. Many people just follow the crowd and do what is the most popular. A great example of this is Mr. Cunningham, when, although he really is a respectable man and doesn’t really hate black people, he joins the mob of people trying to lynch Tom Robinson. Another example is during the trial when Atticus presumes that Mr. Cunningham was the one who held the jury up for such a long time. Mr. Cunningham probably knew just like everyone else that Tom was innocent, and he stated his point of view, but in the end he ended up following the crowd and saying that Tom was guilty. Two great examples in the story of showing courage are Atticus and Ms. Dubose. Even though the circumstances were completely different, it took a lot out of both of them to stand up against what they knew, or thought, should be changed. Atticus shows his courage by standing up against the whole town of Maycomb in Tom Robin......
