Civil Disobedience Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Civil disobedience is defined as the refusal to obey a law or follow a policy that is believed to be unjust. Practices of civil disobedience are usually non-violent and carry out the technique of passive resistance to bring attention to the issue. In many cases, civil disobedience is quite effective and achieves the objective of making the unjust law well known and/or changed but much of the time it is all done to no avail. Civil disobedience does work, but it takes time and effort to get the messages across as well as the laws changed like in the cases of Mohandas Gandhi, the Fathers 4 Justice organization, and the many women of Canada who want the right to public topless ness. Mohandas Gandhi’s life story is a truly remarkable one that was primarily dedicated to gaining Indian rights in South Africa and to later establish India as an independent country. Gandhi developed the concept of “Satyagraha” which are acts of civil disobedience marked by Indian tradition in combination with his own high moral standards and sense of self-discipline.
