Death of a Salesman Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The play Death of a Salesman is a tragic story of Willy Loman and his endless pursuit of success. Willy can no longer recognize his own reality, or why he has failed. Therefore he wreaks havoc on his own life and that of his family. Unaware of what warped his mind and behavior, he commits suicide in the conviction that a legacy of $20,000 is all that is needed to save his beloved but also damaged offspring. Willy Loman’s dreams of success were so strong he was willing to go to any lengths to achieve them even if that involved pushing his son, Biff, to succeed where he was not able to. Throughout the play, Willy Loman emphasizes the importance of living a successful life. Willy’s main idea of success centered around one goal: to be “well liked”. Wanting to be well liked is not a bad ambition, but at times Willy’s desire to be “known” became so intense that he lost sight of the other important factors in his life including his family.
