Durkheim Durkheim es el exponente del movimiento iniciado en la teoría social por Henri Saint Simon, quien postuló por primera vez la necesidad de una ciencia de la sociedad inspirada en el ejemplo de la mecánica y la física clásica. Hebert Spencer en Inglaterra y August Comte en Francia fueron los principales ejecutores del proyecto Saintsimoniano a lo largo del siglo XIX, motivados a demás por el impacto de la teoría de la evolución sustentada en biología por Charle Darwin.
