Immigration in the United States A subject that people around the world are familiar with is immigration. Yet, one could never realize the horrible effects that could be caused from an “open-door policy” that the United States has adopted. During the past 40 years, America has had one of the most gracious and at the same time, horrific immigration policies the world has ever seen. One can see how this happens with the largest increase in population in the U.S. during the 1990’s than any time period. This can all be attributed to the Immigration Act of 1965 that added amendments to the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952. During this time, policies were nationally based and as time progressed it then changed to being hemispherically based. For example, before 1965, if you were from Britain and wanted to move to the U.S., you could only do so if you were one of the 2000 immigrants allowed from that country. After 1965, tragic changes were made that allowed more immigrants from third world nations and refugees. With the act instated, 170,000 people were allowed from the eastern......
