Prohibition ended in 1933, why are we still fighting it. It may seem unfair to many observers to allow 18-20 year olds to marry, to have children, to own cars, homes and firearms and to be financially and socially independent and yet to be legally prohibited from drinking a glass of wine in a restaurant , or even a glass of champagne at their own wedding. This is a quote from OMalley and Wagnaar. Its hard to believe that people in the early 1900s in the United States did not have the freedom to go out to a club and get wasted whenever they wanted. This is a freedom that we as Americans can be proud of, unless you are under the age of 21.
The National Minimum Drinking Age Act began before prohibition. It was started by a group called the temperance movement. They pushed to have alcohol prohibited in the United Stated and in 1919 they succeeded. The 18th amendment was passed prohibiting all sales and consumption of alcohol.
