Holden Caulfield, in The Catcher in the Rye is a magnificent character that can be related to in many ways. The struggles with lack of communication with his parents, dealing with maturing, and the insecurity about his future are all obstacles in his life. It is a coming of age novel, because it shows valuable lessons as well as taking fault for one's own action. Teenagers today find it difficult to communicate with their parents. This lack of communication isolates a parent from their child forming a boundary between the two making their relationship unbearable. In Holden's life his parents are well off and money is not a problem. Therefore, they think money could bring satisfactory in their son's life. They learn otherwise, when Holden sees a psychiatrist realizing money is their son's demise. Teenagers can relate to Holden when they are faced with issues that can not be resolved with the help of their parents, and must make the right decision on their own.
