The Tempest Reveals the Extent and Limitations on Prospero’s Power Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In the Shakespeare play, ‘The Tempest’ Prospero is portrayed as a strong and magical character. In each act Prospero’s power is represented in different situations. The play starts off with a storm, which results in a shipwreck. When we are introduced to Prospero we find out that the shipwreck was the work of his magical powers. So straightaway when reading the Tempest we are acquainted with his powers. It is in the second scene of Act One when we find out he caused the storm when he is talking to his daughter, Miranda. Miranda is fifteen years old, and is growing forever curious to find out how she ended up on this island with her father. Miranda’s first line in the play instantly tells us she has great respect for her father, “If by your art, my dearest father”. She goes on to enquire if he caused the shipwreck and if so, why. Prospero shows his caring side when he comforts her and informs her, “I have done nothing but in care of thee”. Prosper......
