The events and characters in The Crucible are too far away from the audience's experience to really engage them emotionally or intellectually in some ways, because our world differs from Salem and in the times when the Salem Witch trials took place people had a different way of thinking, those days the people also lived their lives as they should according to the Bible. The events that had took place in Salem were different because then people believed in witches and superstition and then everything relied upon witnesses where as now everything is proven.
In the Crucible Abigails character changes throughout the play. Arthur Miller portrays her character as being naive at one point and he also shows her as being manipulative, ruthless and powerful.
At the beginning of Act 1 Abigail is shown as a ruthless person because she blames Tituba from compacting with the Devil when they were dancing in the woods. Even though Abigail knows that for the lie she is telling Tituba could be hanged. Arthur Miller also shows how quickly everyone believes Abigail because they think she is tellin......
