The social flux of the early 19th century contributed to many of the successful religious movements of the time. Independent religious movements such as Mormonism, Millerism, and the Jehovahs Witnesses are just a small sample of the many trans-denominational movements that occurred during the said time period (Finney, 2005). The westward expansion of the United States brought about many new opportunities for the implementation of religious ideas and the movements that followed shortly thereafter.
