The Destructor's Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Destructors Farrah Spalding It has been nine years since the end of World War II and London remains in shambles. The blitz has displaced many families who lost everything during the war. Members of the upper class have been forced to “come down in the world” (p.112). This dreary scene is the setting of Graham Greene’s short story, The Destructors. At the beginning of the story, the Wormsley Common Gang meets at “the site of the last bomb of the first blitz” with their new recruit and soon-to-be leader, Trevor (“T”) (p. 112). Trevor, a member of the upper middle class, is from a higher social class than his new companions. His father, a former architect who is now a clerk, was severely affected by the war, causing he and his family to move down in society. Trevor was forced from a life of comfort into the lifestyle of a commoner. In turn, Trevor is angered by his situation and its injustice.
