In The Demon in the Freezer, Richard Preston Talks of one of the biggest dangers facing civilization today, Smallpox. Mother Nature possesses tools to control population. The recent hurricanes are a perfect example of this. Hurricane Katrina however does not come close to comparing to one of her deadliest methods of control, the virus. There are many different types of viruses in the world but Smallpox is perhaps the most dangerous and lethal of them all.
The where and the when of how Smallpox first became involved with humans is not really known. Most scientists put the timeframe from between 300 and 12000 years ago, quite a broad spectrum. Viruses, the smallest life form have been around forever. They are parasites that live and breed in or on other living things. Viruses can usually not be treated with medications.
