The Revolutionary Election Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The presidential election of 1800 was the most important election in United States history, because it was so controversial due to the immense involvement of the two political parties (Federalist and Democratic-Republican). We saw the forming of these political parties during Washington's presidency and they transformed the political realm forever. They changed the ways in which people made their decisions based on beliefs and how they would choose their leaders aside from giving a sense of unity. Americans saw Washington as being “above” the way these parties conducted their business, so there was a universal feeling that anybody who ran against him could not possibly win. Although these political parties served as unifiers they became just as much dividers. After Washington decided to step down from the presidency in 1796 it propelled these parties to each choose candidates who would run against one another in an election.
