Many individuals are looked upon as a leader by others in society and are determined to accomplish what they set out to do. In “King Oedipus” by Sophocles, King Oedipus is recognized as the leader of Thebes and is determined to live by his words, which causes a negative impact towards himself. King Oedipus’s determination to accomplish what he is set out to do results in his ultimate downfall. King Oedipus is looked upon as a leader and role model by individuals in Thebes, which causes his inspiration to accomplish what he exclaims to them he will do and causes negative outcomes for him. Firstly, once King Oedipus is aware that the only way to save the city of Thebes is to figure out the killer of Laius, he immediately consults the individuals in the city of the situation and takes it into his own hands. “The killer of Laius, whoever he was, might think to turn his hand against me; thus, serving Laius, I serve myself…Bring all the people of Cadmus here, and tell them there is nothing I will not do.”(pg.29) King Oedipus is determined to accomplish the duty of finding the kill......
