When Hope is Lost Throughout a persons lifetime they might have experienced the loss of close friends or family members. For most people it is something very difficult to deal with. It is most difficult to go on or pick up where you left off when that person has left you with so many memories. It can be hard to even face the fact that the person will no longer be a part of your life and the thought of ever moving on may seem hopeless. In Edgar Allan peos poem “The Raven,” The speaker is suffering from the loss of his beloved maiden Lenore. The young man is hopeful and is willing to be relieved of the memories of her. He is lonely and he is so desperate he hopes to see her ghost, but as the poem climaxes the presence of the raven will fill him with despair and loss of hope. In the beginning of the poem the speaker is lonely.
