McCarthy, and His Witches. Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Arthur Miller created a everlasting work when he completed The Crucible. Few other works would ever match the sorrow of its violent accusations, and none do so with such a chilling reminder of history: Miller wrote his play during a modern witch-hunt. It is all but too easy to forget the trials of Salem, and there are still many who know very little of McCarthy and his hearings. Whether it is 1692 or the 1950’s, the past of America is tainted with the memories of people whose lives were ruined by reckless accusations and thoughtless punishments. In the tiny town of Salem Massachusetts, a gaggle of girls went parading into a nearby forest with the slave Tituba. These girls are caught taking part in a, naked, childish ritual. This was not something that girls usually did in the late 1600’s, and was considered to be very objectionable. Parris (the local minister) followed the group, and was the one who caught the girls in the middle of what he believes to be a witchcraft ritual.
