William Golding’s classic, Lord Of The Flies, is an interesting novel that deals with the evil inherent in all men’s hearts. Golding uses foreshadowing very effectively. He uses it to create suspense, develop the main theme, and enhance the plot. It is important to recognize foreshadowing in the novel in order to appreciate Golding’s tale. Golding created suspense through out the many chapters with foreshadowing. The clues given make the reader wonder about the upcoming events. He makes the readers become interested in the novel, which makes it difficult to put the book down. There are many parts of the novel that include suspense. For example, when the beast is mentioned and when the boys are debating if the beast is real. “ Ralph turned away to the red cliff. They were waiting to see what he would do.
