The Battle Of The Bulge Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
On the 16th of December 1944 the Germans lunched its last great counter offensive of World War II. The Battle Of The Bulge was meant to be Hitlers last stand in order to break apart and defeat the Allied forces. Hitler thought that he had enough troops to launch a surprise attack on the Western Front through the thinly held line in the Belgian Ardennes Forest. He believed that if he would retake Antwerp the Allies would become irritated with each other and would lead to disputes between the members of the Allies. He also believed that the bond between Great Britain, The United States, and Russia was unstable and could easily be diminished. Hitler also believed that factors such as bad weather and, bad terrain, and the Christmas holiday would help catch the Allies by surprise. The Allies regarded the Ardennes as unsuitable for an attack, even though, four years earlier the German Blitzkrieg (Lighting War) had shattered the Allied front which led to Frances Surrender. If his would have succeeded, he would have been able to buy some much needed to time to work on secret weapons ......
