Macbeth Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Macbeth and Lady Macbeth enter as King and Queen, followed by their court, who they demonstrate much appreciation for. There lies before them all, a bold table assembled with a feast. As Macbeth walks among his people, the first murderer appears in the doorway. Macbeth has words with the murderer, but only briefly, gaining knowledge that Banquo is dead and that Fleance has escaped. For Macbeth to learn that Fleance has escaped does nothing but bring absolute furry and frustration to Macbeth – if only Fleance had died, his throne would have been secure. Instead, “the worm has fled / Hath nature that in time will venom breed” {III.iv.28 – 29}. Returning to his people, Macbeth attempts to take a seat at the head of the royal table but is slowed down from doing so as he is soon to discover the ghost of Banquo sitting in his chair. Macbeth, in absolute horror and rage, attempts to speak with the ghost occupying his chair, the very ghost which is invisible to Macbeth’s guests.
