Scarface Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Many movie critics and fans claim that the movie Scarface (1983) is one of the greatest American gangster films ever produced. It tells the story of the goals, the eventual success, and the downward spiral of American capitalism. This movie follows the life of a Cuban immigrant, Tony Montana (Al Pacino), through his rise and fall. This movie is a great example of stereotyping in Hollywood movies. The issues of stereotyping as well as race and gender are obvious in the movie Scarface (1983) and I intend to discuss each one giving examples to back my claims up. The most obvious stereotype in the movie is that Cubans are mostly lower class, drug-dealing criminals. This is seen immediately in the beginning of the movie when all of the Cuban refugees are shipped to America from Cuba, most of who had been let out of prison. This drug dealing, criminal stereotype placed upon Cubans as well as other Latin and South Americans will be discussed the most.
