This paper is on how Greek, Roman, Judaic, and Christian philosophies that shaped the U.S. Constitution had an affect on contemporary political systems.
The Rome had established a law called the Civil Law which applied only to its citizens and was not used against foreigners. There was also a later law known as the Law of Nations that applied to everyone in the Roman Empire and then the Civil Law and Law of Nations soon merged together. They used many principles that are still used today such as you are innocent until proven guilty, as in modern day courts. As today in our world, judges were expected to make fair decisions in the court of law. A lot of the philosophy used in Roman law was borrowed from the Greeks. The brothers Tiberius and Gaius Gracchus were the first people ever to try a reform. Tiberius was elected in 133 BC and told the state to give their land to less fortunate farmers.
