Sylvester Pat Weaver president of NBC Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Sylvester “Pat” Weaver was born in 1908 in Los Angeles. He lived to be 93 years old, passing away on March 15th, 2002. He aided in the development of radio and television. “In 1949 Weaver went to work for NBC as head of TV programming and soon after became President of the network.” (Hart, 2000). He was a creative pioneer in the years of development for radio and television. Weaver studied at Dartmouth College, where he focused on philosophy and classics, and graduated magna cum laude (Kepley). Weaver “went to work for Don Lee’s regional radio network on the West Coast and wound up at a San Francisco radio station.” (Hart, 2000). During World War II, he served in the military delaying his contribution to the advancement of radio and television. After his service in the military, Weaver “worked in advertising at the Young and Rubicam agency.” (Kepley), which would give him the experience he needed to work for network television.
