No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

On January 8, 2002, President George Bush signed into law the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLBA). The purpose of this law is to change the federal government’s role in education (kindergarten through twelfth grade) by requiring American schools to provide quantitative proof of their academic success through standardized test scores. In passing this act, the President had four reform principles in mind to attain: stronger accountability for “guaranteeing” results, increased flexibility and local control, expanded options for parents, and an emphasis on teaching methods that have been “quantitatively” proven to work. According to the United States Department of Education, of the four reform principles, accountability is the most crucial aspect.
