For these reasons the relationship between himself and Miss. Brodie is forbidden despite the fact that the two loved each other, "Teddy Lloyd"'"s passion for Jean Brodie was greatly in evidence in all the portraits he did of the various members of the Brodie set" (pg. 111). Since the two could not be together, Miss Brodie chose one of her girls, Rose Stanley, and expected her to carry out her own desires and have a love affair with the married art teacher whom she loved yet couldn"'"t have. This was somewhat ironic and hypocritical on Miss Brodie"'"s behalf since she knew that she could not be with Mr. Lloyd so neither could one of her students. However, Teddy Lloyd does have an affair. Not with Rose but with another member of the Brodie set, Sandy. The role of Mr. Lloyd is important to the novel. He represents Miss Brodie"'"s passion for art.
