The three paradigms in Sociology have very different views and explanations on various aspects of society. One of these aspects is that of the family. The American Heritage Dictionary (2000) defined family as, A fundamental social group in society typically consisting of one or two parents and their children. The three paradigms, the structural functionalism, the social-conflict, and the symbolic interactionist all agree that the family is a fundamental social group in society, however the composition of the family is what differs between them. The structural functionalism paradigm views family not only as factories that produce children to replenish society, but also as a system in which adult members are stabilized. According to Talcott Parsons (1955), The primary role of the family is the socialization of children to that they can truly become members of the society into which they have been born. The family has to prepare these children to become socially accepted members of society. Human beings are not born with the socialization required to survive in society.......
