They were not allowed to hold a job, read or even write in the past. And when they did get the chance to work, they were paid lower salaries and given less hours than the men. But the United States is not the only society that has a history of treating their women unfairly. Even in Ancient Greece women were portrayed and represented in a different way from the men. Through poetry, plays, and visual arts, there was much dissimilarity associated to the women and men. Throughout Classical Greek society, there were both positive and negative representations of women. The first known perception of women was at a time when male gods were not yet worshiped throughout the societies of Europe. Instead there was a Great Goddesses who according to Stephen L.
