17th Century Poem Interpretation Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

During the seventeenth century most of the literature was religious. One author from the 17th century that is a good example of Puritanism and religious writing is Anne Bradstreet. One of her poems that I think is a good example of 17th century poetry is called “ The Prologue”. It is a good example because it mentions religion and god and is very puritan not only because it speaks of god but also because she self loathes in it. In the first stanza of “ The Prologue” Anne Bradstreet talks about how she feels unworthy to write about kings or wars of cities or captains. The first stanza says “To sing of wars, of captains, and of kings,/ Of cities founded, commonwealths begun,/ For my mean pen are too superior things:/ Or how they all, or each, their dates have run/ Let poets and historians set these forth,/ My obscure lines shall not so dim their worth.” By that stanza she is saying that She feels unworthy to write of things like wars, captains, kings, and founded cities. Those things are way higher then she or “superior” to her. She says her obscured lines are not fit ......
