John Proctor: Tragically Heroic Every human on Earth were born with flaws no matter what one would want to believe, and when these flaws get the better of people; the situation becomes tragic and the people become tragic heroes, in some cases. The definition of a tragic hero is a decent person overall who has a tragic flaw that causes his or her downfall. So in other words, they were merely humans with flaws. In the Crucible written by Author Miller, John Proctor fits the definition of a tragic hero with his actions and the characteristics he possesses. He is a good, honorable and respectful man yet his flaws will ruin him. One of the major flaws he possesses is his lust for Abigail. This played a big part in provoking his misfortune. Abigail mistook John’s urges as love; and when he forbid anything else to happen, Abigail blamed it all on Elizabeth Proctor which lead to her accusations of witchcraft towards Elizabeth. This is where Proctor’s path becomes tragic. With his wife in jail for false accusations, he had to do what he could to try and save, which means revealing lech......
