The giver Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Giver is a fiction book written by Lois Lowry. The main character is Jonas; he lives in a place where sameness and predictability are both common. All he sees is “Black and White” both literally and figuratively. He sees it literally because the people were changed at birth so that everyone could see the same things. And he sees it figuratively because he does not experience anything outside the box. The author formats The Giver in third person, using a viewpoint where only Jonas’ thoughts and feelings are explained. Through Jonas’ eyes, his community appears to be a utopia—a perfect place—that is self-contained and isolated from Elsewhere, every other place in the world. Disease, hunger, poverty, war, or lasting pain does not exist in his community. Jonas’ family, like all other families in the community, is made up of a caring mother and father and two children—one male child and one female child. Jonas’ mother works with the Department of Justice, and his father has a job as a Nurturer who takes care of newborns . Jonas has one younger sister named Lily. His famil......
