Moral Ambiguity - Lord of the Flies Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The classic novel The Lord of the Flies the main characters were all morally ambiguous. Each character was represented a part of society. There were two particular characters Jack and Ralph that represented rational and irrational states of mind. The novel Jack had done things that clearly portrayed him as an antagonist but the thing that made his actions morally ambiguous was the fact that he didn't start out as a bloodthirsty villain. He had always been a little jealous of Ralph ad the jealousy is what made him break apart from the group and make his own club. But the story progressed as he hunted, the savage inside his followers and him began to surface. Ralph, the only surviving protagonist, was made to to seem the most rational of the bunch but in actuality he was as obsessive about the fire as Jack was about hunting. He figured if anything or anybody was out there, there would be plenty of food to eat. When it really came down to it worrying about a fire for a possible rescue signal and not worrying about food for immediate survival is just as ludicrous as hunting people d......
