Observation of an a learning disabled person Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

I observed a 9th grade student, age 14, Elliot Dixon at Hawthorne High School on December 8, 2005. Elliott has been placed in Special Day Class for his learning disability which has been diagnosed as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Elliott is a good-looking, young, African-American student who comes from a low-middle class family. He seemed to be wearing the latest fashionable outfits. Elliott has an older step-brother, a younger sister and two foster kids residing with his family. The two foster children residing with the family were new additions to Elliott’s family since he was 9 years old. His parents are not divorced. Elliott’s father works the graveyard shift at Los Angeles International Airport loading cargo and his mother works in the Accounting Department. The classroom environment was inviting and decorated with inspirational posters. The rules were explicitly posted in front of the classroom so that the students were aware of the rules as well as the consequences. The room entailed the student’s work and projects so that they had a sense of owners......
