Six weeks ago as I was preparing to depart for my sophomore year at Villanova University, I was digging through my nightstand drawers searching for last minute items I may not have packed. As the bottom drawer opened releasing dust from lack of operation, I instantly remembered what was inside. I proceeded to find a journal with entries written by others and myself describing events that had scared or greatly affected me during my years in middle school. Writing things down is how I dealt with my problems. After reading Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams and Bastard out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison, I discovered that members of the opposite sex in each book tended to deal with undertakings which negatively impacted them through their actions and physical features, contrasting my strategy of writing them out in a journal. In general, women living during the time each of the aforementioned novels were written could be identified by the face they showed the world; however their true feelings were kept hidden inside.
