Egyptian mummies are a very fascinating part of ancient Egypt. A mummy is a body of a person or an animals body that has been preserved after there death. Egyptians believed that a person could have a life after death by doing a prosses called mummification. The prosses of mummifying a person was very expensive. The people that were poor were buried in the sand while the rich people were buried in tombs. The only tomb ever found that was not robed was the tomb of Tutankhamen which was found on November 4th 1922. Tutankhamen has also been known as King Tut. The prosses of mummification took about seventy days over all. The first step of mummification was to wash and purify the body. The next step was to remove the organs from the persons body. They would make a slit in the left side of the persons body to remove the intestines, liver, stomach, and lungs. The heart was not removed from the body because the believed that they needed it for the after life. After removing the organs they individualy dried with natron and wraped with a cloth called linen.
