Rosa Parks Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

December 1, 1955 marked a turning point and start of the modern civil rights movement in the United States, with Rosa Parks. Parks was among one of the few black American citizens who took a stand for what she believed in. She noticed that people, particularly African Americans, were being denied basic human rights as simple as eating in a certain restaurant, or sitting in seats certain seats in the back of the bus. Rosa Parks didn’t like that, so on this day in December she, being a seamstress in Montgomery, Alabama, refused to give up her seat on a city bus to a white passenger. Shortly after her refusal for the seat, the bus driver then had her arrested, where she was tried and later convicted of violating a local law. Being that discrimination and prejudice were dominate issues in the 1950’s, was a reason why Parks will always be known for taking a stand in what she did.
