Lydia’s Lack of Regard for Others One of Jane Austen’s themes in Pride and the Prejudice is superiority versus inferiority which plays into those who believe they are superior lack regard for those they believe their inferior. This is shown in many different ways other than the obvious social class differences, but also, in a much closer look, in the youngest daughter of the Bennet Household. Lydia Bennet, the self-involved, immature character whose actions of disregarding respect for her true superiors, behaving to satisfy her own egocentricity, and lacking genuine dignity that most certainly prove that she behaves in ways which portray her to lack regard for other individual’s feelings. In this novel, Jane Austen stresses class differences and the certain amount of contempt each deserved. For this reason, it is undemanding to realize that Lydia shows a complete disregard towards the necessary respect for those who are her superiors.
